Senior Associate, Communications & Public Relations
Vicky holds dual degrees in Psychology and Broadcast Journalism from the University of Maryland and a Masters in Communication, Culture & Technology from Georgetown University. Her psychology background has given her a deep understanding of human motivations and their impact on communication.
Vicky joined the CPI team in 2024.
Vicky is particularly interested in how people express themselves and interact in the digital world, leading her to research digital communication in virtual realities like social media platforms and video games, and how these interactions influence connection and community building in the physical world.
This unique blend of expertise enables her to effectively support CPI teams in showcasing their remarkable work to a global audience while fostering and enhancing connections and communities through strategic digital communications.
Vicky believes that communication is about finding and building connections with others — a perspective she brings to every project, whether paid or volunteer. Two volunteer projects that Vicky is particularly proud of involve using her skills and experience as a digital communications strategist to help rescue animals find their forever homes and to restore her family’s generational farmhouse, transforming it into a highly-rated and guest-favorite Airbnb.
Since high school, Vicky has volunteered at a number of animal rescues in the DMV area. The most rewarding part was helping people find their new best friends. By taking high-quality photos and promoting the dogs on social media, she showcased their personalities and connected them with potential adopters. Vicky also used her own platforms to promote events, introduce new animals, address breed misconceptions, and highlight the benefits of adopting over shopping. Thanks to this, several people in her own network found their soul-dogs/cats.
Her father inherited a 100-year-old farmhouse on an avocado farm in a Spanish island national park. Vicky and her family have lovingly restored it for friends, family, and guests to enjoy. This year, she launched an Airbnb for the house, handling everything from upkeep and promotion to guest interactions. Her efforts are driven by her deep love for the property and her desire to create a magical experience for anyone who visits it.
As a former journalist, she has had numerous works published across a variety of beats, ranging from Supreme Court justice hearings and political breaking news to more uplifting stories such as the benefits of adopting versus shopping and the connection-building opportunities provided by events like Otakon in the anime community.
The work Vicky is most proud of is an investigation she conducted into Title IX offices across the country. She discovered issues in her alma mater’s handling of sexual misconduct cases and wrote a story on how Title IX offices nationwide manage these cases and report their statistics.
This eight-month investigation involved engaging with employees of the Department of Education, interviewing various survivors and Title IX representatives, collecting and analysing both qualitative and quantitative data, and crafting a comprehensive story that highlighted the issue and how it is being addressed—or not. The story was shared by non-profit organizations, survivors, other Maryland news outlets, and even some federal Title IX employees who genuinely sought to enact change and improve how our government serves its people.
Over the years, she has had the privilege of working on numerous CPI projects and programmes. One of the most rewarding aspects of being part of the Communications & Storytelling team is the opportunity to engage with a wide array of inspiring projects and help them connect with their audiences. She believes that by sharing their incredible work, we amplify their impact.
A standout experience for her was working with the Pandemic Solutions Group. CPI organised sessions with various health experts, including former NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins, to discuss key learnings from the pandemic and outline next steps. I had the honor of creating video compilations for this project, which were widely disseminated across CPI’s network.
What excites her most, however… is the future! The Communications & Storytelling team has several amazing projects on the horizon that address urgent issues. Vicky is really excited to continue contributing to these efforts and look forward to sharing more about them soon. Stay tuned!
Outside of work, the things that bring Vicky joy are her plants, her dogs Leo and Cas, her cats Seli and Nyxi, the feeling of sunshine on her skin, bubble tea, and her pinterest board of a million and one DIY/crafting projects she wants to do.
