Mathilde Foged Jensen (she/her)

Senior Associate

Mathilde was awarded a BA in Human, Social and Political Sciences from Cambridge Sciences and an MPA from Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose from UCL.

She joined the CPI team in 2022.

Mathilde worked in policy and advocacy at Amnesty International in Denmark during a period when the country began revoking permission for Syrian refugees to stay. A highlight of her experience was collaborating with the international secretariat to collect evidence from Syria and build policy campaigns aimed at overturning decisions by the Refugee Appeals Board, ultimately preventing the deportation of Syrians.

She appreciates the approach of thinking systemically while acting locally.Mathilde believes that without a focus on systemic interconnectedness and a holistic approach, interventions risk being short-term. She observes that various sectors, from four-year democratic election cycles to departmental silos, require a long-term perspective to drive transformational change.

Currently, she is involved with the AI Opportunity Fund: Europe, which addresses AI’s impact on the labour market by equipping vulnerable workers and marginalized communities with foundational digital and AI skills. Through tailored support and collaboration with civil society organisations, the program aims to help individuals build confidence, skills, and resilience in the face of AI. Mathilde values how this initiative prompts consideration of the long-term impacts of rapid technological changes and the importance of ensuring equitable opportunities for a resilient workforce.

Outside of work, Mathilde finds joy when she clips panniers onto her bike or straps her backpack belt on her waist, as she knows great adventures await her.

She loves exploring new places and cultures – when she was younger, Mathilde did a lot of backpacking and volunteering through “workaway”; she built mud huts in the Sahara Desert, helped an Iranian couple start a language/cultural exchange hub outside Isfahan and benefitted from the hospitality of strangers that became friends. Recently, she’s enjoyed exploring places “closer to home” – especially in nature – and loves swimming in the sea, wild camping and biking/running/hiking with good friends!
