Javiera

Interim Senior Programme Manager, Global Development Initiative

Javiera has a Master of Arts in Graphic Communication Design from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. She holds an architecture degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and is an Associate Fellow (AFHEA) of Advance HE within the UK Professional Standards Framework.

Additionally, Javiera has pursued further certifications in innovative governance of large urban systems from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, futures thinking from the Institute for the Future, and user experience principles from the University of Michigan.

She joined the CPI team in 2022.

Javiera has had the privilege to lead impactful initiatives in the fields of service design and urban development. At University of the Arts London, she co-designed and led the ‘Co-Design Your Place’ international training programme funded by Erasmus+ EU. Over two years, this initiative equipped over 50 changemakers in Poland, Denmark, and the UK with service design tools, fostering a network of young innovators committed to placemaking.

She also served as Programme Manager for Latin America at Bloomberg Philanthropies’ 2021 Global Mayors program while working at Unit, she managed initiatives across 10 cities in the region. Javiera collaborated closely with innovation coaches to support city leaders in implementing impactful projects and mentored one of the participating cities.

Formerly, she held the position of Responsible Design Lecturer at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, and currently, she serves as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of the Arts London and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Javiera is passionate about unveiling and connecting systems -from people to nature-, which she believes is at the core of CPI’s values. She is particularly interested in innovating government structures on both local and global scales, viewing governments not only as central entities but as interconnected tissues linking citizens, the public sector, and the private sector. Another area of interest for her is unlocking people’s creativity and imagination. She firmly believes that each of us plays a role as a designer of society and advocate for creating infrastructures that empower everyone to imagine and shape our collective future.

She is very proud of the work CPI has done with UNDP Systems Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation initiative work, advancing innovative practices for systems MLE, where Javiera worked as Programme Manager. Additionally, she proud to be leading our newest initiative, The Collective, which provides a guided space for practitioners to experiment, learn, and develop alternatives in support of regenerating the development sector. More than an innovation lab, The Collective aims to act as a connective tissue, uniting curious minds and driving community action.

In her leisure time, Javiera enjoys connecting with nature, especially the sea, interacting with humans by having a small chat in the local store, smiling at people, visiting exhibitions and getting creative, filming the built environment to observe people’s behaviours, and spontaneously strolling through the city to find hidden gems.

Examples of Javiera’s work includes:

Co-design Your Place: How to use Service Design in Regeneration

Educating the City: New urban schools and social infrastructure (2021). Boys, J, Jeffery A, Godoy J, Mangan N
