Alejandra Montoya (she/her/ella)

Senior Associate, North America

Alejandra Montoya has taken a keen interest in politics and equality since school, where she took courses on Racial Politics, Sociology of Race, Class, and Gender, Feminist Political Theory and U.S. Civil Liberties. She then went on to achieve a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Social and Economic Justice from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Alejandra has been part of the CPI team since 2021.

Since then, she has done courses in Advanced Equity Facilitation and Racial Equity, which has guided her transition into becoming a facilitator that continually centers equity and liberatory practices. It also informs how she shows up in spaces with program participants and coworkers and how she develops equity-centered programs for CPI. The course focuses strongly on racial equity and liberation, which Alejandra is deeply passionate about.

Alejandra is passionate about CPI’s North America Legitimacy work — specifically the newest work focused on embedding equity structures in government. She believes that equity needs to be embedded in every process and system CPI has, and that it takes everyone to make this happen. She has worked on the Washington Equity Program, a programme focused on embedding equitable structures across the State government. It prioritises giving government staff the tools to share power and equitably engage with community members from marginalised communities.

Alejandra has a keen eye for detail and knows how to centre other people in different experiences and scenarios. She brings good vibes to the spaces by creating people-centered, caring environments.

When she’s not working, Alejandra loves reading fiction books, playing with her cat, taking ballet classes, and traveling.

Alejandra has a case study published on the Citywide Equitable Engagement Cohort: Portland, Oregon.
